I'm sold on AmazonBasics cables!,
by J. Offenbach, 2009-10-03

I wonder what makes HDMI cables so costly. Spending over fifty dollars seems ridiculous to me, so I've been waiting for a reasonably priced, high quality, flexible cable and I found exactly what I needed with the AmazonBasics Braided Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable at 6.5 feet! Costing substantially less than comparable cables I've researched and held in my hands, this stands heads and shoulders above the others and I'm thrilled to now have my new HDTV hooked up to Cox Cable via this HDMI cable rather than the standard cables provided by the company. Without an HDMI cable, I was not receiving the full options available but don't regret waiting to get this brand and model from Amazon; I would have spent far much more money to purchase another brand and it likely would not be as flexible and substantial as this. My television is providing much more entertainment today than it was yesterday and the HD channels are overwhelmingly wonderful now! Wish I'd utilized the HDMI capability sooner, but I'm happy to have this particular cable now and more money in the wallet for popcorn and beverages.

The images provided by Amazon cover just about everything included with the exception of a little black twisty tie. Nothing is wasted in this packaging, it can be reused or recycled and you do not need tools to access the cable from the packaging. There is no chemical scent and you'll receive no cuts on the fingers from hard plastic packaging.

If you're in the market for a longer braided cable, AmazonBasics also offers a 9.8 Feet model.

AmazonBasics makes a very good HDMI cable,
by J. Sundquist, 2009-10-11

I got an email from Amazon announcing their new line of AmazonBasics cables. They said that their goal was to make a high quality cable and sell it at a very reasonable price.

They have achieved that goal.

I ordered two of the six foot HDMI cables and on nine foot cable for about eight bucks each.

The cable came in a simple cardboard box with nothing but a twist tie aside from the cable (which is a good thing, I hate the plastic blister packs that cut your hands and unnecessary stuff in the box to go in the landfill).

The cable has a solid, quality feel to it. Nothing feels cheap or chintzy.

Connecting the cable between my TV and several compontents including my brand new Samsung Blu Ray player, the connection just worked every time.

For comparison purposes, I bought a $50 super delux, high end, will solve all the problems in your life (according to the sales guy) HDMI cable at Radio Shack. Connecting the AmazonBasics cable to the same Blu Ray player as the fancy cable I saw **NO DIFFERENCE**!

Looking into it I found out that HDMI is a standard that is run by an organization. In order for anyone to make an HDMI cable and put the HDMI logo on it (which the AmazonBasics cable does), the cable must be made to the HDMI organizations standards. So the group basically tells the companies how the cable must be made in order to be given the HDMI logo. The long and short of it is that cheap cable or expensive cable, it must work to the same standards in order to have the HDMI logo.

So, super fancy $50 cable gets thrown back across the counter to Radio Shack guy for return and AmazonBasics cable gets a new home in back of my entertainment center.

I'm now going to purchase several more of these for family and friends to have as spares since they don't know any better and will get suckered by the sales guy at best buy into buying a $50 Monster Cable HDMI cable that does nothing better than this one.

unbeatable price,
by Michael L. Godfrey, 2009-12-14

Anyone who has looked for deals on HDMI cables know they can be hard to find, retailers tend to boost the price on the cables to make up for the deals they give on televisions. After reading about HDMI cables [...], which if you have not done I highly recommend reading their research, I decided to look for a cheaper cable. I already have a Blu-ray player hooked up via HDMI, and I was looking for a cable for my XBOX 360. I decided to give the amazon cable, at just over $[...], a try. I was instantly pleased, the cable came packaged well, with shielding over the tips for protection in shipping, and did not look cheap (which many off brand cables can when purchased sight unseen. Plugged it up a month ago, and have not had to touch it since, now gaming and streaming video comes across crystal clear, not to mention the biggest shocker, which is the incredible difference in sound.

great product great price, highly recommended!

p.s. I have a 40" Samsung LCD 1080p HDTV, for those who want to know what I am viewing on.

More than Adequate,

I am using this cable to connect my PC to an Onkyo receiver. It works perfectly. You can't beat it for the money.

Really surprised at how well this cable was put together.,
by Joseph M. Siegler, 2009-10-17

I have to admit when I heard Amazon was working on their own brand of products, I had visions of the old white generic boxes from 20 years ago. Especially when I read it was going to come in their own plain packaging. My first thought was uh-oh. This is gonna be cheap, so they can slap their name on it.

While I'm no technical wizard, and I don't have gadgets, meters, and all that to hook up every cable to say "This cable performs best because my meter says...". Meh - I'm just a guy who likes to hook up stuff and have it work.

To that, I (like most people) am interested in a decent quality cable for their electronics. Not interested in paying out the backside needlessly for it (Monster), or going too cheap either (some of the one penny cables you see on Amazon). I've tried the dirt cheap route before here on Amazon (not on HDMI, but with other stuff), and have been burnt. So I decided to look and see what was out there, and happened upon the Amazon Basics line.

I was in need of an HDMI cable, as I recently got a second HDTV, and will be hooking an HD TiVo up to it, so I ordered this. It arrived today. In the interim, I read all the reviews, and are pretty much universally positive. When it actually arrived today, I got it out of the box, and was immediately surprised at how solid it felt. The other HDMI cables I have for other things aren't nearly as "solid" as this feels. So, as a test, I stuck it on my Xbox 360 in place of the component cables I had there. This looked way clearer than the component cables, so I decided to leave it there, and ordered a second one tonight for the TiVo I originally ordered the first one for.

I have to say again I was quite surprised at how sturdy this feels. The only real negative I could say would be I wish they had a three foot option instead of just six and nine. I do have a bunch of extra cable back there with the six foot, where a three foot would have done just as well. Oh well, that's a minor quibble. I'll definitely look at Amazon Basics again for future cabling needs.

One word of warning about the "Frustration Free" packaging. One of the reviews I read said that it was easy enough to open with your finger, without any kind of scissors. So I tried that. I advise against that, because I gave myself a cardboard cut. Had to go slap a band-aid on there. Yeah, it's my own fault, it could have easily been opened with a pair of plain (even kids) scissors, but I tried the macho route, and used my finger. That was stupid. The frustration free packaging (outside of my own dumb move) really was easy to open, and the fact I can toss it in the recycle bin is nice. It's also well enough put together that you can take all the stickers off and re-use the box. It's very sturdy.

UPDATE: When I bought this cable on October 16th, the price was just $17.51. Lately Amazon has been selling it for over $30. What's with that? Did I catch it during some intro price period or something?
