Decent DVD-R,
by Michael A. Duvernois, 2009-10-02
I have never had any trouble with different brands of DVD-R (or -RW) blanks. They all seem to work reasonably well for me with just the occasional failure to write, usually when there's too much stuff running on my older Mac. These disks burned nicely and played just fine in my DVD player as well as read back on my Mac and my Linux machine. So the disks are just fine and are priced quite well.
The AmazonBasics marketing seems to be centered on the frustration-free packaging and a certain level of simplicity. Frustration-free seems to mostly mean no hard-to-open clamshell packages. No problem, there isn't one here. The disks and packaging appear simple, but were double boxed, an inside "ready for shipping" cardboard box, inflated air pouches, and then an outer large cardboard box. Of course, if it had arrived damaged one would complain about the clearly inadequate packaging.
Great Quality, Great Price,

So far, so good with these AmazonBasics 16X DVD-Rs. I have burned data and DVD video on several of my computer DVD burners, as well as transferred VHS home movies in my combo unit, all successfully and without any errors evident after write verification. I have even subjected one of the DVDs in the spindle to the "flex test" to check for lamination/delamination issues (which was a problem out of the box with the last stack of Memorex DVD-Rs that I had purchased).
I would rate these with some of the higher end, retail blank DVD-Rs out there at about 1/2-2/3 the price. All video DVDs that I burned, were playable on my DVD players and BlueRay disc player. Although I have only had these for a few days so far, I have used the first eight in the stack for testing purposes (including the flex test), in order to check different formats on different equipment. I give them a 5 start rating, based on product and price, and will mention that the packaging was also secure. Due to the limited amount of time I have had them, I will edit/update this review if anything changes in the future.
Works great,

I am using these discs with a Sony Optiarc AD-7240S burner and they work fine for data and video, havent gotten a coaster yet. Usually I try to go for the more reliable brands like TDK, Ridata and Taiyo Yuden. There are no quality issues with the Amazon discs however they do say Made in China if that matters, personally Ive had more luck with Made in Taiwan. I have to agree about the packaging, a box that is five times the size of the 100 spindle is overkill.
Pleasantly Surprised,
by Michael J. Marziale, 2009-11-10
To be honest, I was a little nervous about buying a spindle of store brand DVD-R's, but I figured for the price point, it was worth a try. I have been pleasantly surprised to find that these are indeed high quality, low cost DVD-R's. I've burned about 15 of them so far, and all of them have burned successfully and quickly. No complaints about speed or quality of the burn. These are an excellent, low cost solution for your storage needs.
Dependability at last...,
by J. Jenkins, 2009-10-13
Historically I have purchased a variety of discs from a broad spectrum of manufacturers and have always had a number of discs not burn successfully. With these Amazon discs I have had no such dissatisfaction. Every burn nets me a viable disc that I am happy to give to family and friends. Furthermore, I find that my burner works better with these discs; the burns are smoother and faster.
